Abstract
This statistical study conducted a survey to identify the current state of public awareness of hematopoietic stem cell and cord blood (CB) donation in Korea, including the level and type of awareness. According to the results, seven out of ten respondents were aware of hematopoietic stem cell donation and five out of ten were willing to donate. Of the respondents who were not willing to donate, 40.9% stated that the most common reason was ¡®vague fear.¡¯ This study was timely and meaningful as it provided support for increased donation registration. Furthermore, this study had the potential to result in transplants for 4,497 recipients who were on the transplant waiting list as of 2018. This study concluded that there was great significance in contributing to the vitalization of a donation culture to expedite transplants.
